Troubled junction lights fail again

THURROCK Council responded to the latest breakdown at the controversial Buckingham Hill Road and Stanford Road (A1013 ) junction this afternoon (Sunday, 8 December).

The junction has been the bane of lives for Thurrock motorists for many months after new permanent lights were installed as part of the planning permission granted to Persimmon Homes to build new homes in East Tilbury.

However, the work, completed in the spring, was botched and failed to pass a safety inspection.

Despite much posturing, pressure and some threats by the council Persimmon have failed to ensure the work is completed, while drivers have had to suffer delays and problems, particularly when the lights fail - as they do fairly regularly.

They were particularly problematic today when all the lights stuck on red, causing chaos for drivers.

Mid-afternoon Thurrock Council took to social media to say: "We are aware there is a fault with the temporary traffic lights on Buckingham Hill Road, engineers are on their way out to turn these off and resolve the issue."
