Two men charged following death at a golf club

TWO THURROCK men have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm following the death of a man in a fight at a golf course on the Thurrock border.

Met Police officers were called to Top Meadow Golf Club near North Ockendon which straddles the border between Thurrock and Upminster, at around 10.50pm on Saturday (7 December).

They found a man being restrained.

A short time later, a 37-year-old man from Hornchurch collapsed. He was given first aid and taken to hospital, where he died.

Four men have since been charged with grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

Gaetano Schembri, 24, of Buxton Road, Grays, and Melchione Schembri, 58, of Highfield Gardens, Grays, together with Paulo Pinto, 50, of Braxted Road in Rivenhall, and Shkelzen Mataj, 39 of Tomlinson Avenue in Luton were due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday, 10 December).
