Two per cent pay rise for council officers is poised to be approved by councillors

By Neil Speight 19th Feb 2020

THURROCK Council officers are set to get an across-the-board pay increase in April of two per cent.

That means the council's highest paid earner, chief executive Lyn Carpenter will get an increase of at least £3,500 a year.

The council does not release details of what senior officers are paid, other than in banding structures which are published a year after they have been paid.

In the last recorded year, as at April 2018 Ms Carpenter's salary was listed at between £175,000 and £180,000. Three other officers earned up to £140,000.

At next week's meeting of the full council, councillors will be asked to rubber-stamp a pay increase of two per cent on the as yet unpublished salaries paid in the last financial year.

Lesser ranked officers are also being recommended for a two per cent increase.

The lowest paid members of the council, other than apprentices, will get a minimum pay point with hourly pay set to £9.24 from 1 April 2020.

The lowest pay rate for apprentices aged 16 to 17 years old will be £4.55 from 1 April.

The salaries do not include pension packages, which for senior officers can range into tens of thousands per year.
