TWO men will appear in court next month following an incident in Grays when a police officer was elbowed in the face and another punched several times.

Shortly before 1pm on Wednesday, 13 November, officers were conducting enquiries at an address in Grays on an unrelated matter.

While there, two men attended the location. Upon seeing police, they ran off.

As officers attempted to detain the pair, two officers were assaulted.

Mark Cooper, 20 of Gammonfields Way, Grays, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault on an emergency worker, criminal damage and possession of cannabis.

The second man, Cailan Johnston, 20, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Both men will appear at Southend Magistrates' Court on Monday, 2 December.
