INVESTIGATORS have concluded that a fire that destroyed buildings, cars and stock at a borough tyre-fitters' yard was started deliberately.

The blaze at the junction of Pilgrims Lane and Stifford Hill in North Stifford began just before 2am on Sunday morning (12 July).

More than 40 firefighters were involved in tackling the fire which was brought under control by 4am, though crews stayed at the scene damping down, for some time.

The site, operated by A2Z Tyres was completely destroyed by the intensity of the blaze.

A statement released this morning (Monday, 134 July) from Essex Fire and Rescue, says: "The fire investigation found that it was started deliberately."
