A LEADING Thurrock councillor has praised the authority for meeting an increased number of performance targets in the first three months of the civic year.

Electing to take the glass half full strategy and bigging up hitting three out of every four targets, rather than emphasising that almost one in four were missed, Cllr Jack Duffin who is the portfolio holder for central services, described the council's performance as 'fantastic.'

Cllr Duffin said: "It's fantastic to see that despite the fact that there were still restrictions in place and many of our services were still greatly impacted by COVID-19, the council still delivered on more than three-quarters of our performance targets – a marked increase from 66% in the same quarter of 2020.

"During these first three months alone we have been able to continue supporting residents in many different ways, such as by completing 97% of repairs to council properties within their target timeframe and by offering a total of 150 volunteer placements across the council, of which 135 were successfully filled.

"Our frontline services have worked incredibly hard during this time, filling a total of 1,472 potholes across our roads on time. Not only this, but our tenants continue to be increasingly satisfied with the work of our ambitious Transforming Homes project while 100% of all minor and major planning applications have been processed on time.

"These results speak volumes for the dedication of our workers in continuing to adapt through new and complex challenges, and delivering on the things that really matter to our residents. I'd like to say a personal thank you to all the dedicated employees who have once again done our community proud."
