THURROCK Council is seeking the views of residents ahead of exciting plans to improve two play areas in South Ockendon and Corringham.

Originally opened in time for the 2012 Olympics, Corringham Town Park includes a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), climbing wall, and outdoor gym equipment.

The games has been closed since June 2024 due to safety concerns, which included a legal action after a user was injured.

But, following intervention and pressure from ward councillor Roy Jones, who was also instrumental in forcing the council's hand in recent restoration of the park's paths, plans to install new equipment and re-open the games area.

The paths were resurfaced a couple of years ago with compacted stone but the work was widely regarded as insufficient and of falls from trip hazards and uneven surfaces were reported.

Alongside Corringham Town Park, improvements are also planned for Dilkes Park in South Ockendon.

A council spokesperson said: "All feedback will be used to help shape the design and features of the new play areas. It's a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in your community."
