Uplifting message as community comes together with Ukraine refugees

REFUGEES who have fled Ukriane and found a home in Thurrock will meet with local people and those who have sponsored their stay in the borough at an event in Chadwell St Mary yesterday (Wednesday, 22 June).

It was a prelude to a series of events under banner 'Cafe Connect' to be held at the Community Church on Defoe Parade.

Others will foillow on Saturday (25 June) and Saturday, 23 July, Saturday, 20 August, Saturday, 17 September and Saturday, 15 October.

Among those at the intial event was borough mayor Cllr James Halden who said: "It was uplifting to meet refugees from Ukraine and the families who are supporting them.

"While scenes of the war are heartbreaking, the warmth of the Thurrock and wider Essex community is profiundly wonderful."
