BOATS on the Thames have been advised to give a wide berth to an unexploded bomb that has been discovered off Thurrock, close to Mucking Creek on Lower Hope Reach.
The site of the ordnance has been marked with a buoy at an approximate distance of 340 metres to the west of the edge of the authorised channel. A safety zone radius of 100 metres has been placed around its position.

The Port of London Authority has warned vessels are 'particularly cautioned against anchoring, trawling or otherwise interacting with the seabed in the vicinity of the buoy'.
No information has been given about the origin of the ordnance, though it is likely to be a WW2 unexploded bomb.
Nor have any plans to deal with it have been announced, though the safety zone has been set to expire at the end of January, 2026.
