A RURAL road has been closed by police as the aftermath of a vehicle hitting a powerline pole is concluded.

More than 100 properties have suffered a power cut.

Princess Margaret's Road in the old East Tilbury village has been closed since the accident, which happened around 10.30am today (Monday, 26 May).

The incident, in which a large lorry which had been carrying soil, struck the pole, brought down lines, causing some outages and electricity disruption in the village.

UKPower engineers are reported to be on site.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "We are called at 10.40am to manage the road closure while UK Power Networks do the needful to repair expose cables.
