Village land that has caused concern for residents is up for sale: Will it mean completion at last of eyesore estate?

CONCERN continues to grow in East Tilbury about the state of the Lawns Court development of new houses, which remains incomplete.

And further worry follows a notice of sale for part of the site.

In April this year Thurrock Nub News reported on the fears of neighbours around the development, with residents concerned the unfinished site was an increasing health hazard.

Work ground to a halt on the development after the site owner Tom Ingleton began an argument with Thurrock Council over the amount he has to pay as part of the section 106 agreement that came with the granting of planning permission. A 106 agreement is the amount of money a developer has to contribute to community facilities. The battle between Mr Ingleton's company, Ingleton Property Ltd, and the council appears unresolved.

It has going on since early 2021 – when Thurrock Nub News reported on Mr Ingleton's situation and his bid not to have to pay out. Our report included the following video showing the state of the site:

Now residents are concerned about the long term future of the site and sympathy has been expressed for tenants in the built houses, many of which still require works including landscaping and snagging issues.

The third of an acre parcel of land that is being sold has planning permission for six houses and would effectively complete the mini estate – meaning the building yard, unfinished sewers and other residual problem areas which have led to environmental concerns would be completed.

The land is being offered for sale at a price of £375,000.
