Villagers can help after man believed to be carrying a knife was arrested

POLICE are hoping villagers in East Tilbury may be able to help their investigation after a man believed to be carrying a knife or machete was arrested in a local park.

The incident happened yesterday evening (Tuesday, 19 April) after an alarm was raised by residents that a man was in the area with a knife.

A statement from Police has now confirmed the incident, and the arrest of a man.

It says: "We were called to Gobions Park in East Tilbury shortly after 6.10pm on Tuesday 19 April following reports an offensive weapon had been seen.

"A 21-year-old man from Ilford was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife.

"He has since been released under investigation.

"Our enquiries are ongoing, and we need anyone who saw anything to contact us.

"Please quote incident number 962 of April 19.
