BUSINESSES in Thurrock are beginning to feel the impact of the coronavirus lockdown, with a number across the borough saying that even though they can continue to trade, they have decided not to.

This evening it was confirmed that the number of people infected with the virus in the borough has risen by two to 15.

Nationally more than 8,077 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, but the actual number of cases is estimated to be much higher. The number of deaths is now 422.

This evening, the clampdown took its toll on popular the Stanford-le-Hope Orient Express Chinese takeaaway and adjacent Orient Fish bar, which closed after saying: "For the safety of all our staff and customers we are sad to have come to a final decision to close.

"We hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy. There will be further updates regarding when we will re-open."
