A WALK will take place early in June around East Tilbury as part of the Thurrock 100 Walking and Talking project.

Taking place on Saturday, 12 June it will explore the residential, industrial and social legacy of Thomas Bata's Utopian vision from the 1930s.

Participants will visit the factory, hotel and Bata Memorial Park before ending at Coalhouse Fort for afternoon tea. Later in the afternoon, there is the option of joining a return walk along the sea wall Coalhouse Fort to East Tilbury Town.

During the walk, Sadie Hasler will lead a conversation, asking you to put yourselves in the shoes of your role model. What do you aspire to achieve? What can we achieve here by walking together?

The East Tilbury walk is one of four new routes as part of this year's programme which celebrate Thurrock's heritage, its varied communities and links to the wider world.

The development of the walks has been in partnership with Active Essex and Essex Cultural Diversity Project.

The first will take place on Thursday, 10 June from five to 7pm around Tilbury.

The following day will see walkers gather to take part in a walk entitled the 'Grays Town taster', from 4 to 6pm and will visit restaurants around the town. Meet the chefs and get to know the people of Grays and their aspirations for the future. The walk will end with drinks on the foreshore.

Later on Saturday evening (7 to 8pm) there will be an opportunity to watch an online screening of short T100 films made by Fotis Begklis in 2020 during last year's festival: T100 Calling.

The new walks conclude on Sunday, 13 June from 10am to 4pm with 'Grow Your Own – Purfleet-on-Thames'. The day offers a time to reflect on dreams for a more sustainable community.

On offer are a circular walk at the RSPB Rainham Marshes or a walk from the RSPB to High House Production Park.

You need to book to attend the walks and all the details can be found via this link.
