WILD flowers could be sown along the side of the Manorway following a call by members of the public to improve the look of the local landscape.

A petition was delivered to Thurrock Council in October calling for more wildflower borders to be created in Thurrock, with the Manorway through Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham highlighted as a special case.

The petition was submitted by Karen Raja who said: "This will improve the look of the area and provide habitats for wildlife. It will also save the council on maintenance costs."

Next week's full council meeting will hear that a report is to be tabled to the Cleaner, Greener and Safer Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

It says: "One of its key recommendations and methods of delivery will be the sowing of wildflowers and meadow planting in appropriate locations, including consideration of the suggested area, the Manorway.

"The use of wildflower and meadow planting will increase biodiversity and habitats, improve presentation, while reducing maintenance and allowing resources to be targeted in other areas enhancing the overall presentation of the borough."
