Woman escaped ban after being found drunk in driver's seat - plus other motoring offences from across the borough

A CORRINGHAM woman escaped a driving ban despite admitting being in charge of a car when she was well over the drink drive limit.

Basildon Magistrates Court heard that Charlotte Paterson, 33, of Digby Road, Corringham, was found sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle on Digby Road with the engine running.

She was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £137 but her guilty plea was taken into account when she was sentenced and magistrates gave her ten penalty points rather than a ban.

A MAN who drove a car without a licence or insurance and who failed to give a sample when stopped by police has been banned from driving for three years.

Jonathan Stephen Harley, 27, of Poole House, Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary, also admitted possession of two bags of cannabis.

In addition to the ban he was fined £150 for failing to provide a sample ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £250.

MICHAEL Roger Harris, 55, of Lewes Close, Grays, was fined £1,138 and banned from driving for 17 months after pleading guilty to drink driving.

The offence took place four days before Christmas on South Road, South Ockendon.

In addition he had to pay a total of £198 in costs and a surcharge.

A 51-YEAR-old woman resident of South Ockendon was banned from driving for 36 months after admitting failing to provide a sample after being suspected of a drink drive offence in Grays on 22 December.

Biljan Maijatocic, of Dart Green, was ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid community work and ordered to pay a surcharge and costs totalling £175.

LAUREN Cable, 37, of Plaistow Close, Stanford-le-Hope, admitted failing to give information about the driver of a vehicle in which an offence is believed to have been committed and she was fined £60 and received six penalty points.

In addition she had to pay a victim surcharge of £30 but no costs were levied because of her limited means and circumstances.

EDWARD Mortlock, 19, of Dunnings Lane, Bulphan, admitted drink driving and was banned from driving for two years and fined £300. He also had to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £137.

SAMUEL Opeyemi, 29, of Feryby Road, Grays, was found guilty in his absence of failing to give information to police about the driver of a vehicle in which an offence was suspected to have been committed.

His record of repeat offending meant he was disqualified from driving for two years and fined £220. He also had to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £122.

Two other similar offences dealt with at the same time saw him ordered to pay fines, costs and surcharges totalling £652.

SIDNEY Gasa, 47, of Halton Road, Grays, pleaded not guilty to failing to give police details about the driver of a vehicle in which an offence was suspected to have been committed but the charge was proved.

He was fined £660 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £266 and he received six penalty points.

SIMONE Jacqueline Woodard, 32, of Crawley Close, Corringham, was found guilty of using a mobile phone while driving and was fined £220, ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £120 and her licence was endorsed.

JOE Tubby, 23, of Melba Gardens, Tilbury, admitted two offences of driving while under the unlawful influence of drugs.

He was disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months and ordered to carry out unpaid work for 60 hours. he also had to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £190.

A MAN who was banned from driving but took to the roads was ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid community work.

Ricardo Smith, 32, of Grenville Road, Chafford Hundred, admitted the offence - and driving without insurance. He was banned for a further six months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £90.
