THE company behind a housing development in Stanford-le-Hope is hoping local organisations may be able to benefit from materials it no longer needs.

Tamdown is the over-arching company managing the building of a new housing estate in the town, off Victoria Road. It is acting in conjunction with Chartway Construction which has taken over the new homes site, previously run by ilke Homes, which went into administration.

For several months the site was effectively mothballed but construction is now up and running again.

The site manager is Stanford resident James Kennedy, who is keen to forge links with the local community,.

He says: "Before the site shut down last June, we said would offer 'waste' timber to local companies or charities periodically when enough had been collected on site.

"This timber is still good, but would normally be thrown in a skip and probably end up in landfill.

"We have now accumulated a considerable amount of timber, mostly in the form of pallets and 2" by 1" batons, but also other timbers.

"It seems such a shame to throw away good materials when we almost certainly have great charities in the area that could benefit from them.

"Chartway Construction are the new principal contractor on the job now that ilke Homes have gone and they are keen to restart the initiative.

"It's better for the environment and its better for the community and if any local charities would be interested we would like to hear from them."

James can be contacted by email at [email protected] or by calling 07794604391.
