AFTER a near 24 hour operation to fix a burst main in Corringham, engineers from Essex and Suffolk Water were back on the tools again this afternoon (Sunday, 4 January) tackling a burst on a rural link road.
Butts Lane, between Stanford-le-Hope and Linford (and East Tilbury), which also allows entry to the Thameside Nature Discovery Park at Mucking, sprang a leak earlier today, with water running downhill and collectioning at its junction with Walton's Hall Road and Mucking Wharf Road.
Work to fix the leak, which about 300 yards north of that junction, was due to start around 4pm and engineers on site - one of who had come straight from a 15 hour shift at Corringham - were confieent it would be fixed by late this evening.
However, they are aware of the danger of overnight surface water freezing and have also ordered gravel and salt to be taken to the site to be spread when work is completed.
Drivers are advised to take care and if possiblie avoid the incident by diverting via Stanford Road, and Buckingham Hill Road.
