A PAINTED sign showing the World's End pub which appeared to go missing after the devastating fire that gutted the building last week has been located and is safely in the hands of the site owner.

The sign can just be seen behind the firefighters to the left.

Several people expressed concern about the sign, which featured at the beginning of our report on the morning after the blaze.

It was feared it had been stolen, but owner Dermott McGuiness has confirmed it was removed from its posts by firefighters who were on scene monitoring for hotspots and he now has it.

It has not been decided what will happen to the sign, which somewhat ironically is titled 'Wandering the Wilderness', but it is hoped it can be relocated at an appropriate local venue.

Meanwhile the site itself is drawing lots of people to the Thames riverside, but they are advised to be wary as it is still in a dangerous state - one of the two chimneys that appeared to have survived the blaze has now collapsed.
