Millers Celebrate 95th Minute Equaliser

Aveley FC snatched a dramatic point on the road at 2nd place Heybridge Swifts on Saturday in a match dominated by the swirling wind and the uneven surface which prevented the Millers from playing their usual passing game.

An even unexceptional first half left the Parkside club trailing to an Alex Teniola goal when a defensive mix up allowed Heybridge to fire a ball across the face of goal and Ex-Miller Teniola, the current league top scorer, was on hand to turn the ball in from 12 yards out

After the break Aveley picked up the pace and dominated the play applying all the pressure but the Swifts were equal to it with their two big centre halves dealing with each attack.

Heybridge substitute Matt Price missed a goal-den chance in injury time to wrap up the points when loose play from Aveley keeper David Hughes presented Price with an open goal but he somehow sidefooted his shot wide of the post

Into the final minute of stoppage time and the Millers had one last chance. They got the ball down the right hand side and the cross was flicked on to an unmarked Conner Witherspoon whose shot beat the Swifts keeper to his right and went in off the post.

The draw leaves Aveley in 4th place and set up nicely for the run in to the end of the season and the push to catch Maldon & Tiptree at the top
