Belhus 'Young Turks' impress

By Guest 21st Jun 2021

ON Saturday 19 June, Belhus CC 2nd XI hosted Old Southendian and Southchurch at North Stifford.

Belhus fielded first, with Captain Guilbert taking three early wickets, two of which were catches in the field by Andrew Williams. The bowling attack continued, with promising young bowler, Millard taking four wickets, three of which were further catches in the field by that man again, Andrew Williams! A fielding "5for" to match the best at Belhus.

Whilst Millard and Williams bowling and fielding heroics were impressive, the remaining Old Southendian wickets were taken by fellow Belhus 'Young Turks' Fairweather, Overy and Philpot, all of whom had some excellent bowling economy, to leave the visitors with just 82 runs on the board at the turnaround.

Belhus CC 2nd XI quickly achieved 83 and won in the end by five wickets to take all 20 points and maintain an impressive fourth place in their league table.

Other Belhus CC teams, 1st and 3rd XIs, suffered losses on Saturday and the Belhus 4th XI game v Hutton was abandoned.

The Belhus 1st XI lost their Essex Premier League clash by 42 runs at Hornchurch. Hornchurch's talismen were former Pakistani internationals Muhammad Irfan and Adeel Malik. Both bowlers ripped through the Belhus batting line up with Irfan taking fours wickets and Malik taking five as Belhus could only make 136 in the run chase to Hornchurch's 178.

On Sunday, the Belhus 1st XI also crashed out of the quarter final of the Dukes League Cup m, with a 40 run loss at home to Brentwood
