THE borough's non-League got back into action yesterday (Saturday, 15 August) as pre-season friendlies got underway and at the end of the day the four teams were undefeated.

Aveley were 2-0 winners at home to FC Romania, with goals coming from Manny Ogunrinde who dived to head home Mitch Gilbey's cross and Hrry Gibbs, who lashed home a superb volley.

East Thurrock United's new manager Paul Martin took charge of his first game at Rookery Hill and enjoyed a 3-1 win against Witham Town.

Rocks took the lead on 15 minutes when Alfie Cue struck home a well placed strike and he doubled his tally on the half hourwith an angled shot. A third goal came on 51 from Hafeez Sanusi, with Witham gaining a consolation on the hour through Jack West.

Tilbury travelled to Burnham Ramblers and took the lead through David Knight on 10 minutes but the hosts drew level and it finished 1-1.

It was a similar story at Burgess Hill Town where Grays Athletic scored first through Pat Ahern on 21 minutes. The visitors were the better side in the first half but roles were reversed after the break and the Hillians deserved got an equaliser and it ended all square.
