Grays battle back - then let match slip away

Basildon United 4, Grays Athletic 2

GRAYS came away from Basildon on the end of another disappointing result - but at one point it looked like there might be a different outcome as they clawed back a two goal deficit.

However, in the end they conceded two more goals and gained nothing from the game, which saw a debut managerial win for Stanford-le-Hope's much travelled footballer Kris Newby (click on red button below).

The Blues have conceded ten goals in their two festive games but despite that the Blues remain in eighth place in the Bet Vioctor Isthmian North, two points off the play offs.

It looked for much of the New Year's Day derby that Grays would go into the break on level terms but goals from Adam Vyse and Ayomikun Odukoya in the last two minutes of the half sent them in behind.

Undaunted, Grays came back strongly in the second half and by the hour mark they were level, first from Tony Stokes' penalty and then his second from open play.

B

ut that was as good as it got as Vyse went on to convert two penalties of his own, on 69 and 81 minutes, to ruin the day for the travelling Blues faithful.
