AFTER a late change of mind this evening's scheduled Isthmian Premier League match between Margate and East Thurrock United was called off this afternoon (Tuesday, 3 November).

Yesterday Margate issued an announcement saying that the game would definitely be going ahead as planned, but today an announcement was made saying the two clubs had agreed to call the fixture off.

A statement from Margate said: "The club can confirm that this evening's game at home to East Thurrock has been postponed as there is a potential COVID risk related to staff.

"It is our duty of care to protect the players, staff and supporters of both teams and after a short discussion this afternoon both clubs agreed to postpone the game.

"We understand the disappointment this has caused so close to the enforced National Lockdown and we were very much looking forward to the match."

Aveley's rescheduled Isthmian North match at Histon was called off yesterday because both clubs agreed they did not want to play in the wake of the government's Covid-19 lockdown announcement.
