GRAYS Athletic bowed out of the FA Trophy this afternoon after losing a penalty shoot-out.

And there was disappointment in the league for East Thurrock United who led at Haringey Borough only to suffer an astonishing second half collapse that saw them concede five goals in 18 minutes.

David Knight had raised Grays' expectations at Corinthian with a 14th minute penalty opener in their FA Trophy First Qualifying Round tie.

But the hosts from the Isthmian South equalised through Ryanm Sawyer just before the half hour and that's how it finished and the tie went to penalties, which the Kent side won 5-4.

There was a mood of optimism on the back of some great FA Cup performances for East Thurrock when they ran out at Coles Park in the Isthmian Premier against Haringey and things looked to be heading in the right direction when Johnny Ashman gave the Rocks a 13th minute lead which they held at the break.

But it all went wrong in the second half with a remarkable collapse.

Georgios Aresty put Borough level on 50 minutes and then two goals in two minutes, the second a penalty on the hour, from one time Rock Roman Michael-Percil put the hosts in the driving seat.

Alfred Bawling added a fourth on 66 minutes and Callum Robinson rounded off a miserable late afternoon for the Rocks when he put through his own goal on 68 minutes.
