Rocks on the rampage against Romford

By Neil Speight 26th Jan 2022

Romford 0, East Thurrock United 7

AFTER being on the end of some dreadful hammerings themselves this season, East Thurrock United turned the tables this evening (Wednesday, 26 January) and hit another struggling side for seven in the Isthmian league cup.

The Rocks travelled to Mayesbrook Park to take on Isthmian North bottom club Romford in the Velocity Trophy and blitzed their hosts in the second half.

Just an Olly Miles goal eight minutes before the break separated the two sides at half time but East Thurrock, struggling in the lower reaches of the Isthmian Premier, found it easy going in the second half and rattled Romford for six more goals.

Samuel Osei-Owusu started the rampage just four minutes after the resumption, Joshua Blackburn put through his own goal for Rocks' third and Jake Thompson made it four just before the hour mark.

In the last stanza Thompson added his second on 83 minutes and Miles, who recently joined East Thurrock from Sawbridgeworth, completed a hat-trick with goals on 75 and 89 minutes.
