Vital day for borough sides

THE game of the day in the Isthmian North will be at Aveley's Parkside ground this afternoon – but there's also another always eagerly awaited derby at Tilbury's Chadfields home.

At Parkside top plays third when the Millers host Stowmarket Town and the outcome is likely to be pivotal to the destination of the title and automatic promotion.

Aveley are three points ahead of Stowmarket, but the visitors do have two games in hand. Second-placed Canvey are also very much in the title mix but they have a difficult-looking fixture at play-off-chasing Dereham so the top of the table this evening might give a good clue as to where the title will end up.

Things are a tad more parochial at Chadfields were Tilbury play host to Grays Athletic - a game not without notoriety and fierce passions in recent years.

While Tilbury have little to play for but local bragging rights, Grays will be in search of points to cement their play-off challenge. They currently hold the fifth and final play-off spot on goal difference alone from Hashtag United, with Dereham a point further back.

The equation is pretty simple for East Thurrock United who travel to Corinthian Casuals in the Isthmian Premier.

After a joyously celebrated victory against Kingstonian two weeks ago that sparked hopes of a great escape for the Rocks, two defeats at the hands of Leatherhead and Cheshunt brought Marc Harrison's side crashing back down to earth and if they have any chance of making up the nine point gap to safety, with just seven matches left, nothing but a win at St George's Field against mid-table Casuals will do.
