HOUSING developer Persimmon has filled in some of the gaps with an updated application for 90 new homes in Aveley.

The proposed site off Park Lane already has outline planning consent after winning a hotly contested planning battle in 2024 and now Persimmon are seeking approval of the finer details.

The development will consist of a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes and would include three apartment buildings, with 40% of the homes provided as affordable housing. The orignal access and design statement can be read here.

Persimmon say the development has been designed around 'generous green space, new children's play areas and landscaped streets, creating an attractive environment for both new and existing residents'.

It adds: "Existing trees and hedgerows would be retained where possible, alongside new planting and sustainable drainage features to support wildlife and improve biodiversity."

Persimmon say the development will provide a range of community benefits through Section 106 contributions towards healthcare services, nursery and primary education, Belhus Park, sustainable transport initiatives including a car club, and travel plan monitoring.

Councillors on Thurrock's planning committee originally want to reject the scheme, saying they were concerned about "substantial harm" to the green belt and further pressure on schools and healthcare. However, they backed down and granted permission when told they would probably lose if the issue went to the Planning Inspectorate on appeal.

Approval was rubber-stamped in August last year after being checked by the Secretary of State who had no objections and details of the S106 agreement on commitments to the community were agreed.
