Downham Town 1, Tilbury 1

A BONFIRE night trip to Downham for Dockers brought little by way of fireworks on the pitch - but the point earned was enough to lift the visitors out of the bottom four of the Isthmian North on Wednesday evening (5 November).

There was little to choose between the sides, but Downham probably ended the stronger and Tilbury were grateful for a couple of decent saves late in the match from Harry Fairs.

Both sides have struggled in the league and sat in the drop zone at kick-off.

Tilbury were probably the brighter side during the first half of few chances, and the sides went into the break goalless.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour when Dockers were awarded a penalty which Tobias Braney put away for his first goal for Tilbury, sending keeper Jasper Briggs the wrong way.

However, the hosts were level on 68 minutes thanks to Eoin McQuaid.

Moments after the goal Tilbury introduced new signing Ezra Agyiri, recruited from Romford, having also played for Walthamstow! It was a return to Dockers colours for Agyiri as he spent a brief spell with the club on loan in the 2023/24 Essex Senior league title-winning campaign.

He wasn't able to turn the tide of the game, which ended all square, with Fairs taking the late plaudits.

Tilbury also have an away day on Saturday (8 November) when they make the trip to another struggling side, Cambridge City, who sit a point and a place above them in 17th - though Dockers have two matches in hand.
