Aveley 3, Concord Rangers 2

AVELEY took the opportunity to blood some young players and still came through with a win in last night's (Tuesday, 31 October) Essex Thameside Trophy clash against Isthmian Premier Concord.

The match had been due to be played on Canvey Island but was switched to Parkside.

Competition rules meant Vanarama South Millers could only play six first teamers who featured in the weekend's league win at St Albans, and two of those - Kenny Aileru and Charlee Hughes - netted in the first half.

The opening goal came on 14 minutes when Tommy Davis' first time attempt was blocked but Aileru was on hand to roll the ball home.

And on 36 minutes Hughes went on a magical run by himself before curling a shot into the net.

Just before half time Concord pulled one back when Matas Skarna scored from distance.

It didn't take long for Aveley to restore the lead, just two minutes of the second half had passed when Kai Brown hammered home.

Just after the hour Harrison Day came on for the Beachboys and scored with his first touch with a header into the bottom corner but the Millers were able to see out victory and make the quarter-finals.
