TILBURY FC ended a long run of first round failures in the FA Cup with a 4-2 win at Milton Keynes Irish on Saturday (6 August).

The Dockers had to overcome a late comeback from their South Midlands League hosts but a late goal from, Alex Clark, his second of the match, saw them home in the extra preliminary round tie and confirmed a first prelimininary round clash at Waltham Abbey on Saturday, 20 August. The Abbots beat Woodford Town 4-1 in their extra preliminary round clash.

Roman Campbell got Dockers' noses ahead in Saturday's tie with a 20th minute penalty but he lead was shortlived as the Irish drew level two minutes later through Ryan Smith.

Clark grabbed his first five minutes before the break and Lewis Smith scored on 62 minutes to put Tilbury in the driving seat.

Andre Olukanmi's 84th minute penalty caused late concern for the visitors but Clark settled nerves with a last minute goal that confirmed the win and a prizemoney haul of £1,125.

Grays Athletic wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win against Harlow Town at Parkside. Both goals came in the first half through Corey Davidson (16) and Aron Gordon (20).

The only downside was a red card for Brian Moses.

Aveley FC went down by the same score in their friendly at Maldon and Tiptree.
