DOCKERS were beaten against Isthmian Premier Brentwood on Friday evening (1 August) but it was a testing and productive final pre-season clash for the borough side ahead of next weekend's Isthmian North season opener at Mildenhall.

The hosts opened the scoring on 27 minutes when the ball was worked down the right wing and carried to the by-line before a low cut back was poked home by Charlee Hughes.

Tilbury responded well and within a couple of minutes Medo Konte gained possession on the edge of the area and found room for a shot but it was just wide.

The scoreline remained the same going into the second half, when Dockers were saved inside its  first five minutes by a Jimmy Wallace clearance of the line.

They came close to an equaliser following brilliant work from Max Appauh on the left wing as he skipped past the first man and danced away from the second before finding a pass across, but Nathan Best couldn't direct his effort goalward.

Brentwood also went close on 72 minutes when a free kick on the edge of the area was taken by Benas Vaivada. His curling effort around the wall was heading for the top corner but was very well saved by Harry Fairs.

The impressive Appauh was enjoying a good evening and he came closest to an equaliser with a strike that came back of the crossbar.

The outcome was sealed four minutes from time when Brentwood got their second against the run of play as Jesse Olukolo fizzed a low cross from the right and the ball deflected off a defender and rolled into the net.
