Cheshunt 2, Aveley 1

TWO goals in two minutes saw the Ambers turn Tuesday night's Isthmian Premier tie around and ultimately meant Aveley left The Stadium with nothing tangible.

The Ambers went into the break a goal behind after Malachi Napa gave the visitors the lead on 36 minutes, but they turned the game completely on its head just before the hour.

Aveley had enjoyed their share of possession and carried a threat going forward during the opening 45 minutes. Their breakthrough arrived nine minutes before half-time when a counter attack saw Manny Harvest play in Napa who smashed the ball into the top right hand corner to send the Millers into the interval with a slender advantage.

Cheshunt's second half response was emphatic. On 58 minutes the Ambers were awarded a penalty and Sam Granville stepped up to confidently bring Cheshunt level.

Before Aveley had time to settle, they were behind.

Barely a minute later the visitors surrendered possession and Granville was there again, punishing the mistake to fire Cheshunt into a 2-1 lead and complete a remarkable 60 seconds for the Ambers.

Aveley pushed hard for a way back into the contest, but found R'avan Constable in inspired form and he pulled off a couple of match-winning saves.

The home side defended their penalty area with determination, competed for everything and, when the final whistle arrived, had earned three valuable points. Aveley may have produced more attempts, echoing manager Alex Akrofi's attacking mantra but Cheshunt made theirs count.

The victory was Cheshunt's second league win of the season and moved the Ambers up to 14th place on 11 points, climbing above Aveley, who slipped to 16th on ten.

Millers will hope to bounce back at Burgess Hill on Saturday (10 October).
