Round-a-bout-spins again and Shad is back at Parkside

THE reshaping of Aveley FC after the departure of manager Brett Munyard to Brentwood Town and appointment of Town coaching staff member Alex Akrofi as his successor has seen three more new faces at Parkside – all with strong Brentwood connections.

It's the latest twist in a merry-go-round of players between the two clubs over the 18 days since Munyard's shock departure was announced.

Ollie Peters, Ryan Henshaw, George Saunders and Jayden Robinson have gone from Parkside to the Brentwood Arena.

Defensive midfielder Emmanuel Harvest became the first player to follow Akrofi from Brentwood when he was the new manager's inaugural signing.

Several others have followed from other clubs, but the latest senior acquisition is a Brentwood headline-maker who played a key role in assisting in his side's 3-2 FA Cup victory at Parkside.

Shad Ngnadu followed that performance with a commanding display in a 5-1 victory over Maldon & Tiptree and was in the starting line-up for a giant-killing 3-1 win on Saturday (3 October) in a live-televised third qualifying round FA Cup win against Dagenham & Redbridge that has earned Brentwood a trip to National league Eastleigh.

However, that was to be his last outing as he has returned to Aveley.

Shad Ngnadu

Ngnadu first joined Millers in June 2018, from Waltham Abbey where he scored 20 goals in 47 appearances. He came through the Brentwood Town youth system and played with Akrofi both at Brentwood and at Aveley.

In his first season with Aveley he made 31 appearances, with his first goal coming in a 3-1 victory over Grays Athletic. In the 2019/20 season Shad made 37 appearances - scoring 13 goals (a hat-trick in a 6-1 against Grays), including playing away at Notts County in the quarter-final of the FA Trophy.

Ngnadu returned to Aveley at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, when he played 19 times, helping Millers to the Isthmian North title.

After spells at Hythe Town, Maldon & Tiptree and Great Wakering Rovers he re-joined Brentwood Town in October 2023, making 27 appearances for the remainder of the season, scoring in a play-off semi-final victory at Bury Town. The following season Shad won a second Isthmian North title medal, this time with 32 Brentwood appearances.

He wasn't in the Town squad at the start of this season, but when Akrofi became interim manager after the club parted company with one-time Millers boss Keith Rowland, he called clubless Ngandu back for what proved to be a very brief spell.

He arrived back at Parkside alongside two more signings with Brentwood connections.

Kymani Thomas

Millers have announced the signing of Kymani Thomas from National South side Dagenham & Redbridge on an initial 28-day loan from National South side Dagenham & Redbridge.

Kymani began his youth career at Dulwich Hamlet and Beckenham Town before stepping up into senior football with Herne Bay during the 2022/23 season. In September 2023, he scored a halfway line goal for Ashford United on his debut against Ramgate - and would finish the season at Walthamstow where he found the net a further six times.

The forward then moved to Waltham Abbey, scoring 11 league goals - where he secured a deal at National League South side Ebbsfleet United, making his debut against Bromley.

After departing Ebbsfleet, Kymani moved to Brentwood Town where he would go on to score 14 goals, and the equaliser in the play-off final to Billericay Town.

His performances for Brentwood, would see the forward snapped up by Dagenham & Redbridge - where he has featured in wins over Dorking Wanderers, Farnham Town, Walton & Hersham, Torquay United and Slough Town.

Aaron Sterling

Coming direct from Brentwood is winger Aaron Sterling. He joined Leyton Orient at Under-10s level before making his way up the Academy ranks at Brisbane Road signing his scholarship ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Sterling joined Brentwood on loan last season, and went on to make six appearances, assisting and scoring in a 2-1 win against Lewes. Sterling played for Orient in the Premier League Cup against Watford, Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City - with one goal coming away at Blackburn.

The young winger would re-join Brentwood on a permanent deal at the start of the season - and has made three appearances, all coming in FA Cup successes against Concord Rangers, Aveley and Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.
