GRAYS Athletic Walking Football Club are hoping to attract more members to the club which gets together twice a week, offering fitness and friendship.
The club is an over 50s group that train twice a week on Monday and Friday mornings from 10am to 11.30am at Lakeside Sports Ground.
One of the organisers is Rod Oakley who says: "We are always on the lookout for new players.
"For both males and females over 50, Walking Football is a slower version of the beautiful game that is designed to help get the over 50s back into football and exercise, with no running and no tackling.
"It's a great way to keep fit, learn skills, have fun and socialise – all at the same time!
"We have three age categories, 50+, 60+ and 65+, with the 60s and 65s participating in a local league called the Essex Walking Football League (EWFL).
"We also regularly organise our own tournaments for local teams including charity tournaments such as The Passchendaele Trophy (also see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNBT7wVgYzM&t=2s) which raises money for the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
"We are always pleased to see new members are everyone over the age of 50 is welcome to come down and join us for a training session. "
The first game is free. Membership is £25 which includes insurance.
