Walking footballers will remember

A WALKING football tournament is again being organised to mark Remembrance.

Grays Athletic Walking Football Club is organising the event at the Thurrock Sunday League's centre at Lakeside on Friday, 23 October.

The club has given the following details: "As with previous years we will be running the Passchendaele Trophy - Over 50s Walking Football Competition in aid of The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

"We will run four teams which will be selected by GAWFC committee. We will be limited to 30 personnel max. This constitutes 7 players per team, 6 playing and 1 sub. So 28 players and 2 referees.

"Matches will be 20 mins duration with 10 mins each way with a short break. Each team will play 4 games. 3 in a league basis and the 3rd/4th and 1st/2nd place playoffs."

Outline timings are as follows:

Fri 23rd Oct 2020:

Arrive at 0930hrs to get changed on the veranda. Team Tops will be provided.

Parade on the Astro at 0950hrs to hear about the battle of Passchendaele.

10am Observe The 2 Minutes Silence with last post and reveille played. RBL Standard will be in attendance.

Kick off shortly after. 2 games in duration

Interval at 1050 hrs approx for Tea and Snacks. Donations to the Poppy Appeal will be greatly appreciated. Also visit Poppy Stand.

Then 3rd game and the 3rd/4th and 1st/2nd place playoffs.

After Final retire to the Veranda for after match drinks with raffle and fundraising.

Cost per head is £5. Please bring extra money to puchase drinks snacks

and mechandice. Plus play the raffle. Any donations for the raffle will

be very welcome.

If anyone is injured and does not wish to play we are looking for 2

volunteers to referee the games.
