Bishops Stortford 2, Aveley 0

AVELEY'S hopes of stretching their lead at the top of the Isthmian Premier table disappeared thanks to a brace from former East Thurrock striker Frankie Merrifield at the Prokit UK Stadium on Friday (16 September) evening.

He struck first in the last minute of the first half, when he broke through the Millers' backline and lifted the ball over keeper David Hughes.

And his second came on the hour when Aveley hesitated in defence, failed to clear their lines and Merrifield pounced to nicke the ball and curl a shot into the top left hand corner.

There's just one game in the division on Saturday, but it could see Millers lose top spot as second-placed Horsham travel to Haringey Borough where a win would see them overhaul the two point gap.
