Grays Athletic 4, Merstham 1

ANOINTED Chukwu continued his recent scoring run with two goals as Grays defeated visitors Merstham in today's (Sunday, 25 September) FA Trophy second qualifying round FA Trophy tie at Parkside.

It wasn't until the second half half that the Blues exerted a grip on the tie and they had to see off some resilience from Merstham who belied their lowly position at the bottom of the South Central Division.

Callum Woods gave Grays a decent start, putting them ahead with a goal after just 12 minutes but Merstham responded well and won a penalty, converted by Charlie Greenwood on 21 minutes.

The sides went into the break on level terms but Grays made a good start to the second stanza with Chukwu scoring three minutes after the resumption.

And his second goal, just three minutes later, set the seal on victory - confirmed by Aron Gordon's goal on 72 minutes.
