GRAYS Athletic lifted the first local silverware of the new football season with a 3-0 win against East Thurrock Community FC at the Wyldecrest Club, Corringham, last night (Friday, 10 July) that saw them take the annual James Chisnell Memorial Cup.

It was a successive seasonal opening defeat for Rocks who went down heavily in their opener at Redbridge against Hashtag Utd on Monday.

Aveley suffered a 4-2 home defeat against Southern League Premier Central side, Leiston, last night, with goals from Ollie peters and Ryan Henshaw. Millers' season opener saw them beat Folkestone Invicta 3-2 on Tuesday with goals from Max Booth, Peters and Eddie Dsane.

Millers, who are in their centenary season, will be at home on Tuesday evening to National League South side, Ebbsfleet United (7.45)pm.

Grays' next pre-season action is on Tuesday (14 July) with a trip to Brentwood FC (7.45pm).

Tilbury, whose midweek friendly at Barking ended in a 3-3 draw, backing up a 5-0 win against White Ensign in their first pre-season game, are next in action on Tuesday at Hullbridge Sports.

East Thurrock CFC, who host a fun day tomorrow, are back in action with a friendly against Earls Colne on Saturday, 18 July (3pm).
