Grays Athletic let a two goal lead slip in Tuesday *22 July) evening's pore-season friendly at VCD Athletic.

The Blues scored twice in the first half but by the hour mark scores were level.

Ahead of Saturday's Stan Venness Memorial Trophy clash with neighbours and landlords Tilbury, Grays have announced the signing of defender David Romer, who previously played for Chatham Town and Cheltenham Town.

The Blues will be looking to hold on to the trophy that they regained last year with a 5-0 win.

Saturday's derby clash, which kicks off at 3pm at Chadfields, will be raising money for Noah's Big Charity, which supports neonatal intensive care at The Royal London and Basildon hospitals.

Tilbury warmed up for the match with a 2-2 draw at Frenford, with their goals coming from Connor Martin and a trialist.

East Thurrock Community FC were also in action on Tuesday evening, drawing 1-1 at Southend Manor, who had a player sent off in the first half, during which both goals were scored. Rocks return to action on Saturday, away to hashtag United reserves.

Also on Saturday Aveley travel to Needham Market for their eighth pre-season friendly.
