AVELEY continue their Isthmian Premier promotion challenge today (Saturday, 24 January) with a home game against struggling Cray Valley PM at Parkside.
In the reverse fixture The Millers secured a 4-1 victory at the Artic Stadium after four goals in 60 minutes from Suley Zuhdu, with Cray Valley pulling a consolation goal back from former-Miller Ibby Akanbi.
Cray are fourth from bottom and are looking for a first win away from home since early December where they defeated Chichester City 3-0. Their squad includes former Millers Kenny Aileru (who featured for Millers 116 times, scoring 17 goals), Ibby Akanbi, Rowan Liburd and Marvel Ekpiteta.
Aveley are looking to secure back to back wins at home after a hard fought win against Welling United last Monday.
In the Isthmian North Grays play host to Stanway Rovers, who have impressed since winning promotion last season. They currently sit in seventh place and will present a test for the Blues, having already won seven times on the road in the league this season. In the corresponding fixture at Stanway's FND & KMCO Community Stadium in October the teams drew 1-1 in a bruising encounter.
Grays' squad will feature returning striker Charlie Stimson who has rejoined the Blues after a spell at Canvey Island.
Tilbury make the trip to the Techsoc Stadium to take on Redbridge, who sit in eighth place - four places and five points ahead of the Dockers who will be looking to improve on last Saturday's fractious draw against high-flyers Bowers & Pitsea.
The match of the day in the Essex and Suffolk Border League Premier Division sees second-placed East Thurrock Community FC travel to leaders Sudbury Sports.
The visiting Rocks have topped the table for much of the season but a recent dip in form, including a defeat at AFC Pegasus last weekend, has handed the initiative to the Suffolk side who are now a point ahead, with both teams having played 19 matches.
They have already met twice this season, most recently on 27 December when Rocks won 3-1 at home in the Essex Border League Knock Out Cup. They also beat Sports 3-2 in the league at the Wyldecrest Club in August.
