Potters Bar 2, Aveley 1

MILLERS' FA Cup journey came to a halt at the Pakex Stadium on Tuesday (6 September) when there was late drama again in this FA Cup first qualifying round tie.

On Saturday at Parkside there was little to separate the two sides and Aveley came back to force a replay by levelling the scores in last minute through George Sykes.

The match was then abandoned in added time because of a bad head injury to Scholars' Joe Boachie who required an ambulance on the pitch. He was taken to basildon Hospital for treatement and released late on Saturday night. A CT scan has given him the all clear and he is currently recuperating. Aveley quickly agreed to travel rather than seek a replay on home ground.

So the action began again at the Pakex and Aveley made a bright start, forcing a couple of early chances.

But it was Bar who were to take the lead in the 18th minute when Kasim Aidoo showed a great touch to gain control of the ball and he moved down the left before driving a low shot across the face of goal. Millers keeper David Hughes got hands to the ball and he will believe he should have done better as he could only parry it just inside the post, sparking big celebrations by the Scholars.

The rest of the half was even and just before the break Aveley were awarded a penalty but Alex Akofri's low shot was saved by Ted Collins at the expense of a corner. The clock was showing added time when it was whipped into the box and Ryan Scott was on hand to head home, sparing Akrofi's blushes and sending the sides in level at the break.

Bar had slightly the better of a hard fought and somewhat fractious second half with half chances at both ends and Hughes making a great save to keep the hosts at bay.

But ultimately it was to be Scholars' night as, three minutes into added time, Mo Kamara beat two Aveley defenders on a mazy run and crossed for Lewis Manor to fire the ball home and seal the tie.

Bar's reward is a home clash with Romford while these two sides, who sit in the top two places in the Isthmian Premier, will do battle again on Monday (12 September) in a league clash at Parkside. Will it be Aveley's time to win at the third time of asking in ten days?
