Concord Rangers 1, Tilbury 0
CONCORD Rangers reclaimed local bragging rights after a late goal decided Saturday's *25 January) Isthmian North derby.
Following a well-deserved victory over Walthamstow on Tuesday, Tilbury took the short journey to Canvey to face Rangers for the second time within two weeks.
The hosts' first chance of the match came after 20 minutes when a square ball found Simo Mbonkwi in the area. The midfielder took a first-time shot but it was brilliantly blocked by his own teammate, Owen Bellamy.
Tilbury began to grow into the game and came close near the end of the first half when Alex Hernandez whipped in a perfect free-kick to find Lewis Clark who saw his header denied by a fantastic save.
Harry Seadon was quickly called to action again when Concord's clearance was only as far as Hernandez waiting on the edge of the area. The striker struck a beautiful volley that was heading for the top corner but Seadon flew across his goal to make another incredible save.
On the stroke of halftime, the Beachboys worked play down the right-hand side and delivered a low cross into the area. The ball was well-intercepted by Jack Hayes but Lapacinskas was waiting to pull the trigger.
However, the winger was unable to find a way past George Marsh. Following the break, Concord almost broke the deadlock when Simo Mbonkwi's header back across goal struck the frame of the goal and bounced out of harm's way.
But with just three minutes left on the clock, Mbonkwi was gifted a second opportunity which he took making no mistake heading home from close range. Harvey Browne's deep free-kick created the chance as the ball was headed back across to the unmarked Mbonkwi.
Dockers are back in action on Saturday, 1 February when they host Cambridge City in more Isthmian League action.
