Welling United 0, Aveley 1 (Match abandoned)
THERE was a bizarre ending to Tuesday evening's (12 August) clash at Welling when the Isthmian Premier match was abandoned with just second remaining following a floodlight faulure.
With Millers leading 1-0 in the dying moments of the game, the lights at the road end of the stadium went out, leading to play being halted during a stoppage in play while the visiting keeper received treatment.
And after much discussion, the referee made the decision to abandon the game, with a decision to be made as to whether the result will stand at a later date.
Prior to the dramatic conclusion Millers had taken the lead, after an even first half, with a penalty awarded just two minutes into the second half. Ollie Peters stepped up and converted the spot-kick.
Both sides had chances to score during an entertaining and competitive second half, but Aveley looked to have got the points until the lights went out.
Millers manager Brett Munyard's take on the floodlight failure.
