Aveley 3, Burgess Hill Town 3
TWO late goals from Ollie Peters pulled Aveley back from 3-1 down to salvage an Isthmian Premier point in Friday (15 August) night's clash at Parkside, played out in front of a crowd of 409.
Millers had already gone close through Alejandro Machado before they took the lead on 13 minutes when Suley Zuhdu latched on to Ryan Henshaw's long ball and showed great calmness to evade a defender and keeper and finish well.
The visitors responded strongly home keeper Joe Wright did well with a save low to his right to deny Ben Pope. Tobi Tinubu then hooked the ball off the line under pressure from Chris Whelpdale.
Millers thought they had extended their lead on 34 minutes when Henshaw got the ball in the net but the referee had blown for an infringement.
And it was to be Town who got the next goal two minutes later when Wright produced another save to deny Pope but the ball broke favourably for Harry Lawson who rifled it home from 12 yards out.
Elliott Sartorius went close for Aveley and so did Whelpdale for Town but the sides went into the break all square.
Henshaw had picked up an injury and was replaced at half time by much-travelled Marvin Ekpiteta, once of East Thurrock United but who arrived at Parkside in May from Folkestone.
Burgess Hill made a bright start to second half and Bobby Price went close with a header.
They eventually took the lead just before the hour when George Vorster nipped in behind Wright and tapped home from close range.
Millers came back into it and creates several chances of their own before the visitors took what looked likely to be a winning position on 72 minutes when Wright again initially made a great save, a block on the line stopped Whelpdale and then Box, but Price eventually smashed the ball home.
Aveley's heads didn't drop and they were rewarded for increased pressure on 78 minutes when sub Jaden Brissett drove down the left and picked out Peters who scored.
The comeback was completed two minutes from time when another sub Rowan Liburd was fouled in the box and Peters kept his cool to net the equaliser.
