MILLERS secured three points in North-West London after coming back from a goal down to secure a second away win of the Isthmian Premier campaign, and third win out of four.

The visitors, keen to show no hangover from their previous heavy defeat at the hands of Bognor Regis, started the game on top and could have taken the lead inside two minutes. A corner from Brendon Shabani found Ryan Scott at the back post who fired just wide of the right hand post.

After that early chance the hosts came back into the game and forward Dylan Kearney fired just over from 20 yards out. The hosts were a decent passing team and managed to carve open a chance for left back Loic Hernandez to open the scoring in the 12th minute. He got in behind and applied a left-footed finish past David Hughes and into the left hand corner of the goal.

Aveley were almost on level terms straight away as Benas Vaivada found Oscar Shelvey on the edge of the area. He tried to pick his spot in the top left hand corner, but he was denied by a strong left handed save from Ben Goode.

The hosts almost doubled their lead as they continued to pass their way to the edge of the Aveley penalty area, Freddie Hinds had two efforts in quick succession, one saved by David Hughes and the other effort soared over the crossbar.

As half time loomed Aveley had one final set-piece in the 45th minute and made it count. The ball found Harry Gibbs who controlled the ball well and crossed into Kenny Aileru at the back post who tapped it in to send the sides in level at the break.

The second half saw an improved and controlled Aveley performance, which started in the perfect way. Just four minutes had passed before Benas Vaivada received the ball in the Wingate box. He twisted and turned and fired a shot into the bottom right hand corner to give Millers the lead.

There might have been more! Scott saw his looped header come back off the crossbar after he connected with a Vaivada corner and then the visitors twice saw efforts cleared off the line. First it was Gibbs who looked to have scored before it was blocked and the ball came out to George Sykes who hooked it back goalwards but again it was cleared off the line.

The hosts almost snatched a point after a clearance landed to Tyrique Clarke in the closing moments but from six yards out, he couldn't convert and spooned it over the bar.

And there was still time for aveley to go close to a third as Bryan Ifeanyi picked the ball up and carried it 30 yards before seeing his effort smack the inside of the post and roll away to safety.

The win lifts Millers to second in the table, on the same number of points as Potters bBar but the six goals conceded against Bognor give Aveley a negative goals difference. Ironically Bar climed to the top by giving Bognor a taste of their own medicine, wining 2-0 on the south coast.

Avelely are quickly back in action at Parkside on Bank Holiday Monday (29 August) when they entertain Corinthian Casuals (3pm).
