MILLERS produced a fine comeback to thwart the hopes of visitors Whitehawk, who looked to be flying high after two early first half goals in today's (Saturday, 15 August) Isthmian Premier clash.

However, they were brought down to earth by Millers who fought back to record their first competitive win of the new campaign.

Things looked bleak for Aveley, who lost to an injury time goal in midweek, when they found themselves two behind after just 24 minutes.

The home side made the brighter start but fell behind on 18 minutes when Whitehawk's first attack fell to Kamarni Ryan who got past Matt Johnson before turning into the box and drilling the ball into the bottom left corner off the post.

Millers then had an escape when Charlie Turner made a good save to deny Ryhs Murphy but things got worse on 24 minutes when Johnson again found himself exposed and Murphy had another sight of goal. His forst effort was saved by Turner but he netted at the second opportunity.

Aveley boss Brett Munyard made a change, replacing Albie Armin with Anthony Jeffery on the half hour and within five minutes Millers pulled a goal back after a botched Hawks backpass left keeper Klevis Mucas in jeopardy and he clattered into the chasing Tobi Aromolaran to concede a penalty that Ollie Peters converted to give Millers a foothold into the game.

And it was a step they built on just three minutes into the second half when Malachi Napa levelled the scores.

From then on Millers were in gthe ascendency, though Miller ws called on to make a couple of saves, which proved invaluable on 82 minutes when Napa attempted an overhead kick, its headed out to Jayden Robinson who hit it first time from outside the box into the top corner!

Millers saw out a few minutes of added time and the frustration for the visitors was encapsulated moments from the end when Mucas was cautionned for kicking the corner flag.

Millers return to action next weekend at bottom of the table Three Bridges.
