Aveley 4, Potters Bar Town 0
AVELEY'S youngsters played host to their Potters Bar counterparts in the FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round on Wednesday evening (3 September) and were out of sight by half-time.
In the early exchanges, Millers were the team looking for the opener and almost got it inside ten minutes. Harry Lusher was denied by an excellent stop from Alexander Ogunsalu in the Scholars' goal.
That didn't stop the Millers for very long, as three minutes later, they took the lead. Woodhall did well down the left-hand side and crossed to the back post; Lusher saw his initial header well blocked by Joe Callender, who was on hand to head home from close range.
Ogunsalu was kept busy; this time, he made a smart save to deny Igbo. He produced a bit of magic, dancing past two players before seeing his rifled effort well saved by the Potters Bar shot stopper.
Inside twenty minutes, and Aveley doubled their lead. A ball out wide to the left-hand side found Callender, who produced a wonderful curling effort low to the keeper's left-hand side, who had no chance to stop the ball from nestling in the goal.
Half-time was on its way, but Aveley put themselves deservedly out of sight. Woodhall did well again and saw his deep cross find Prince Igbo, who headed home from close range.
Millers continued to dominate in the second half, Woodhall and Igbo almost created a carbon copy of the third to generate a fourth but this time the header was over the crossbar.
With ten minutes to go Aveley sealed an emphatic victory. A shot from the edge of the area was originally saved by the Scholars' keeper, but Lusher was on hand to tap home from close range.
A fantastic night for the young Millers who now have a First Qualifying round tie at home to Woodford Town to look forward to.
