East Thurrock CFC 3 , Gas Recreation 1
A HARRY Prince brace and one from Kieran Case gave East Thurrock a place in the next round of the Essex Border League Knockout Cup in their first-ever home cup tie.
East Thurrock got up and running in the 18th minute with a Case flick nearly reaching Iziengbe Ikponmwosa-Ikuero, it was read by the goalkeeper, but it fell to Prince who took it around the keeper and clinically found the top right corner from just outside the 18-yard box.
Just 11 minutes later, the Rocks got a huge slice of luck, as the Gas Recreation goalkeeper sliced his kick into the air, with Case on hand to head in a second goal, putting the hosts in control.
In the 50th minute, East Thurrock seemed to have booked their place in the next round as Ikponmwosa-Ikuero's cross was parried out to Prince, who wrapped his effort into the bottom corner to give the Rocks a commanding lead.
Five minutes later Gas Recreation had a lifeline as a cross reached the far post and was tucked into the far corner.
This lead to a flurry of chances at both ends, with Toby Adekunle coming within inches of his first Rocks goal, with the effort beating the keeper but missing the far post. Adekunle came close again, as he had a shot saved by the keeper then another blocked at the last. The fourth goal would just not go in as Adam Knight had a volley saved onto the post in injury time.
This did not matter in the end as East Thurrock claimed their first ever cup win in their first home cup game, ending Gas Recreation's unbeaten start to the season in the process.
Their reward is a last 16 tie at home against Belle Vue Social Club.
It is back to Essex and Suffolk Border league action next weekend as the Rocks will look to win a third successive game away to Thorpe Athletic
