Aveley 1, Welling United 1

TEN-man Aveley almost clinched back to back wins at home in the Vanarama National League South following Monday's night victory over relegation-rivals St Albans City, but an 18-yard strike from Elliot Long on 88 minutes gave the visiting Wings a share of the spoils on Friday night (29 November) at Parkside.

The hosts started better out of the two teams and had numerous corners in the first ten minutes but a stout Welling defence held strong to deny Aveley getting ahead. Razzaq Coleman De-Graft was hungry to add to his hat-trick on Monday night with a shot which was deflected wide for a corner kick.

The visitors grew into the game and had a couple of efforts blocked, former-Miller Garrett Kelly who started the season at Parkside before moving via AFC Totton to Welling United had an effort on 20 minutes but his first time shot was easily saved by Carey Bloedorn.

Aveley were on top in the first half and that continued as Manny Ogunrinde put a great ball into the box which only needed a toe to go in but no one could get on the end of it to direct it in.

In the 36th minute Aveley were reduced to ten men. Josh Anifowose put his foot up to win the ball but Dave Winfield put his head where it hurts, and the Aveley man accidentally made contact and was shown a straight red card.

Into the second half and ten-man Aveley took an unexpected lead. Hamza Semakula with a great driving run found Razzaq Coleman De-Graft who unselfishly set up David Kara to hammer home from 8 yards out. Aveley 1-0 Welling United.

Unfortunately in scoring David Kawa was injured and subsequently stretchered off.

With 15 minutes to go Aveley almost doubled their lead with Welling United having their keeper to thank for keeping them in it. Semakula's cross found Razzaq Coleman De-Graft for a header, but he saw his header saved by Rhys Lovett.

Time was ticking away and Welling United grabbed an equaliser in the 88th minute. A miss-timed clearance from Thompson landed to Elliot Long who took a touch to set himself and found the bottom corner. Aveley 1-1 Welling United.

Thirteen minutes of added on time were to come, and in the 17th minute of them Welling centre half Dave Winfield had a glorious chance to steal all three points but his header was wide of the goal from close range.

A share of the spoils, and Aveley have one loss in their last four league games and they will go again on Monday night when Maidstone visit Parkside in another National League South clash.
